Remember Peter Enns?

In 2011, hundreds of homeschool families reacted in shock as a particular homeschool convention kicked me off their program because I (with their permission) critiqued Peter Enns’s views on Genesis—but Peter Enns was kept in the conference. As a reminder, here is an article I wrote about that situation.Well, from time to time, Peter Enns has attacked AiG and me personally because of our stand on a literal Genesis. Peter Enns was suspended from Westminster Theological Seminary in 2008 over a book he wrote. He has worked with BioLogos, the leading proponent of compromising positions (such as theistic evolution) on Genesis. Currently, he is Abram S. Clemens Professor of Biblical Studies at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania.Recently, he wrote a piece of satire in an attempt (which I consider to be quite dishonoring to God) to once again attack and mock the high regard for Scripture that we take at Answers in Genesis. He titled the piece “Ken Ham blasts God for not taking the Bible seriously.”Peter Enns states, “My point here, through the use of absurd humor, is that the view of Scripture that serves as the basis for Ham’s ever-ready denunciations of those who disagree with him on matters of science, etc. is a view that Scripture itself cannot bear.”His satirical piece states the following:

In a recent statement from his Creation Museum office, Ken Ham blasted God for “not taking the Bible seriously and undermining its authority.” “Only someone with liberal leanings would write a Bible like this,” Ham exploded. . . .  “Once you start reading the Pentateuch, you get a clearer picture of God’s unbiblical agenda,” Ham alerted his followers. . . . In fact, Ham continues, “I’m just scratching the surface at how unbiblical God’s view of the Bible is,” and warns his followers to beware of the Almighty Creator as “a wolf in sheep’s clothing, spreading error among true Christians.”  Ham did, however, encourage his followers to “pray for God” as well as for him as he carries on God’s work.

You can read the rest of his very ad hominem satirical piece if you want to on Enns’s blog. The only comment I’ll make on this latest piece from Peter Enns is this: one day both Peter Enns and I will be required give an account of how we treated God’s Word.“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:12–13).“My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment” (James 3:1).“To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20).By the way, last week I responded to Michael Gungor who wrote a shocking blog post saying that you can “read those early Genesis stories as myth.” Well today, Michael Gungor retweeted Peter Enns’s post on Twitter. Sad.
