A January 12 programme on Jan Markell’s Olive Tree Radio entitled, “When Discernment Turns Ugly”, is the reason for this post. You may not know this – you cannot see me, and you do not know what is in my heart – but I have endeavored to be gracious and civil and not tear anyone of you down. I must also explain that I am on the side of the Discernment Ministries, having weighed in on the Jonathan Cahn issue, which I feel has been the catalyst for this programme by Ms. Markell. Of course there were other issues that had been discussed during the hour-long programme: Replacement theology, TBN, Pentecostal movement and cessationism, to name a few. Listening to the programme, one must wonder about the hypocrisy that appears to have gone over the heads of not only the host, Ms Jan Markell, but also her guests, David Reagan and Michael Le May, and her co-hosts, Larry Kutzler (who also co-produces the show), Eric Barger and Jill Martin Rische. On the one hand, they were accusing some in the Discernment Ministries (whose names shall remain an enigma since they have decided not to name names) of mudslinging and name calling; on the other hand, they were doing the very same thing: calling us “modern-day Pharisees”. This is a clear example of name calling and hence hypocrisy. This next point pertains to the issue of character assassination: Michael Le May made a good point about the need to avoid attacking the person with whom you are in dissension. I agree that we should not attack the person but his (bad) theology. This notwithstanding, I suggest that the co-hosts first ensured that their guests led by example: while David Reagan was decrying his detractors for accusing him of being motivated by money, with the next breath he went on to attack them for being motivated by jealousy. Here is a clear case of tit for tat. What’s more, Mr. Reagan’s calling the Discernment people “spiritual pitbulls” is another example of an ad hominem attack; in other words, it’s name calling and it’s slander of one’s character. How is this being gracious and civil, Mr. Reagan, particularly in light of the fact that you came on the show making a plea for Christians to be gracious to one another? At least, we can say that calling one a heretic has some scriptural basis and history. But calling one a spiritual pitbull? – Not at all.  Click here for complete article:http://themilitantchipmunk.blogspot.co.nz/2013/01/a-response-to-when-discernment-tuns-ugly.html e:
